an initiatif from Herman Declerck, owner of the website of Pervijze

Preface

The war campaign of the Belgian army can be divided into 3 periods of time. First, the German invasion that advanced the front line into Belgium, August 4, 1914 and ended with the start of the Battle of the Yser in October 1914. Second, the Battle of the Yser and the so-called 'Great Guard at the Yser' from October 1914 until September 1918. Third, the offensive for the liberation that ended with the Armistice on November 11, 1918.
Because of the glorious Belgian resistance against the powerful German enemy, the Belgian army had an important influence during the course of war. However the death toll was extremely high in proportion to the size of the army. About 42.000 Belgian soldiers died during the war. History pays little attention to this.
